The Gaming Chair Discussion

As you are checking out our website, you may be wondering about the pros and cons of buying a gaming chair. There are a lot of articles out there on both sides of the issue. At The Gamer Experience Review (GXPR), we want to help you make an informed decision so that you can find the right gaming chair. Here are some questions that we have received that should give you some clarity.

What are the benefits of a gaming chair?

For starters, gaming chairs are designed with comfort in mind. Like most office chairs, they provide support for your neck, back, and buttocks. With the gaming chairs we are talking about, most of the chairs provide extra support in the neck and lower parts of your back. If you are someone who sits for long periods of time, this is the chair you are looking for. Gaming chairs are also mobile, adjustable, and sturdy. On the plus side, it can also be used for your home and office needs.

What are some features of a gaming chair that you should consider before making a purchase?

Find the right upholstery

There are 3 cover types that can choose from that best suits your style and comfort.

Leather Style Vinyl (PVC)

Its waterproof design makes cleaning easier.

Polyurethane

Similar to PVC, except that it has more of a look and feel to leather.

Fabric

Its material is softer than the PVC and Polyurethane models. Fabric does not conduct heat or cold and is durable enough to withstand animal claws and hair. However, we do NOT recommend a fabric cover if you smoke, eat, and drink a lot while sitting in your chair.

Adjustable armrests are important as well

Some chairs have armrests that can adjust and some chairs don't. If you are someone who is picky about elbow positioning, this feature is crucial.

Armrests that are adjustable one direction (1D), go up and down only. With armrests that go from two direction (2D) up to four (4D), you can adjust the angle (up to 15 degrees) and move the top part of the armrests to the maximum amount of directions that the design will allow.

Size matters

When considering a chair, you have to consider whether or not it can support your weight. That means you need to find the right kind of base before you make a decision. Gaming chairs typically come in aluminum or nylon bases. If you weigh under 200 pounds, a nylon base will work. For those who weigh more than 200 pounds, you should go with an aluminum base. Before buying a gaming chair, please make sure you carefully read the specifications in regards to your body size.

Ergonomic design is essential

If you are someone who sits for long periods of time, then you should consider purchasing a chair with cushions for your neck and lower lumbar. Also, look for chairs that have adjustable height and tilt so that you get the comfort you deserve. Just take into account that if you have major back pain, it may not provide the kind of relief you desire.

Footrests are helpful

While a footrest is not a required accessory for your gaming chair, it doesn't hurt to have one. For some gaming chairs out on the market, footrests come standard, and thus, you are not required to purchase an extra one. But if you are wanting to maximize the comfort level of your feet, we suggest going that extra mile. Footrests gives you an opportunity to move your legs without having to get out of the chair. You can find a footrest that matches the chair or you can be eclectic. Think of it as a recliner that is easier to move around.

Warranty on parts and accessories

Nothing lasts forever. Having a warranty on your chair is a good insurance policy in the event that something goes wrong. Please be sure to carefully read the manufacturer specifications to see how long the parts, accessories, and the frame are covered.
